‘Shaun the Sheep’ manages to do in 86 minutes, with NO dialogue, what Minions could not do with talking characters: Present an excellent family film that not only entertains children but adults as well, at a pace that doesn’t leave time for sleeping or getting bored, or any unhappy crying (or adult whining).
From Aardman Studios (home of Wallace and Gromit), this claymation film is cheeky and breezy and hits all the right marks as a kid-sized adventure tale. When Shaun’s owner is accidentally sent to The Big City, it’s his flock of sheep to the rescue! Assisted by a couple of K9 companions and the quick thinking of Shaun there are some great physical comedy gags as well as heart-warming, character-driven moments too.
Rated PG for Rude Humor (Who doesn’t like a good fart joke?), there is also laughter, excitement, mild peril and a happy ending. [For those in the know, or those that want to know: ‘Shaun the Sheep’ is based on the BBC series of the same name. StS is a spin off of ‘Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave’, and the series produced a sequel of its own, ‘Timmy Time’ (starring Shaun’s younger cousin) which American audiences will know from Disney Junior.]
Bottom line: Go, watch, enjoy. You’ll be glad you did.
