We return to the Isla Nublar 20 years later to find the theme park Hammond envisioned, but over the years it's popularity has diminished so the new owner feels the need to up the stakes with genetically modified creations. While this concept makes my respect for the original film cringe with terror, I can see the story they were telling was reflective of our movie expectations.

The best moments from Jurassic Park were certainly key in writing Jurassic World. It's very easy to see several nods to the original, as well as a few, almost frame for frame, reshoots, but amplified.

It's tough to decide who the main characters are in this film as many get ample screen time. It was enjoyable to see several actors I didn't expect. I won't ruin any, but it's fun to watch for.

The characters ranged from good to contrived to thin and unnecessary. Some stories and subplots seemed a bit unresolved and pointless, when others could have used more development.

Chris Pratt is the star (lord) of course and is great as always. He plays the same character we'd expect, but I enjoy that. I didn't quite buy his character as the former marine/animal behavior expert, but enjoyed every minute he was on film.

I was also quite impressed with Ty Simkins' acting who previously held his own against Downey Jr in Iron Man 3.

John Williams' themes were very prevalent, which was a nice way to connect us to the original. There are several more connections to Jurassic Park, some subtle, some almost too obvious.

The effects were good, but obviously heavily CG. Considering Jurassic Park was a breakthrough in effects it's tough to live up. There were a few shots that had me guessing if it was CG or animatronics, but overall the CG did an effective job. The style and motion of the original did shine through.

While Jurassic World may not have the impact of showing us "real" dinosaurs on the big screen for the first time, it is a fun ride that did have me on the edge of my seat. I am looking forward to seeing it again, but it may be a bit too intense for my younger son. It's like a water slide...has several exciting moments, smooth flow, and a big splash at the end!
